GDW Analysis:
FLORETTE: In June, Brewer High School made a change in hiring Lewis White to be the school's new principal.
On Thursday, the 5A school in Morgan County added another new member into its administration.
Don Farley, the former football coach at West Point, was named assistant principal in a regular meeting of the Morgan County Board of Education.
Farley retired from the gridiron at West Point at the end of the 2023 season.
He was in command of the Warriors for 11 seasons with West Point earning 54 victories. He is the winningest coach in school history.
The Warriors endured five winning seasons with Farley and half a dozen berths into the AHSAA playoffs.
West Point was a playoff squad in 2023. The last victory the Warriors had with Farley came against Brewer on October 27 at West Point Stadium.
A pick six in the closing seconds enabled the Warriors to a 27 to 13 victory, clinching 4th place in 5A, Region 8. That was the Warriors' 5th victory of the season.
Now Farley will be working at the school located off Alabama Highway 67 in Florette.
The last four years at West Point, Farley served as athletic director.
West Point athletics held its own in 2023/24 with girls basketball an area champion and regional qualifier, baseball and softball county champions, girls and varsity golf county champions.
West Point will now have to replace Farley in athletic administration.
The irony for Farley, now at Brewer, the Patriots will end the football regular season November 1 at home vs. West Point.
Brewer is in Region 8 of 5A with Arab, Boaz, Douglas, Guntersville, Scottsboro and Sardis.
In the sport of basketball, Brewer is in 5A, Area 13 with Ardmore, East Limestone and Priceville.
