GDW prep volleyball team spotlight:
West Point Lady Warriors: West Point last Tuesday hosted a tri match at Jim Boyd Gymnasium, breaking the momentum of the Cullman Lady Bearcats.
Cullman had won 4 consecutive assignments the week before for new coach Amy Hudson.
West Point, with new coach Meagan Cagle, a former Cullman mentor, had the Lady Warriors ready to go in sweeping Cullman 25 to 22 and 25 to 22.
The victory was West Point's 2nd at home in three matchups. They had a win over Clay Chalkville the prior week and a loss to Corner.
West Point had gone 4 out of 5 in win column entering the Labor Day holiday break.
The Lady Warriors go into the new week with a busy schedule of strong opposition. Monday, West Point plays host to Austin then goes to Russellville Tuesday for an area assignment.
On Thursday, a tri match at Hayden has the Lady Warriors up against Mortimer Jordan and Hayden.

GDW player spotlight from last week:
Macie Brown and Laklin Shadix of West Point:
The pair stood out from the talent base for the Lady Warriors to claim victory against Cullman from Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
Brown, a senior, had several quality plays to put West Point in the position of winning the first set 25 to 20. A service score and a net block caught the attention of Gameday Weekly.
A kill in the 2nd game raised the lead for the Lady Warriors late in the set as they would hold off the Lady 'Cats 25 to 22.
For Shadix, a sophomore, several kills and blocks were valuable to provide the team good play in supporting the effort of Brown near the net.
A kill broke Cullman's momentum to make it 19 to 14 and a few plays later, Shadix accounted for a block and the advantage was up to 21 to 14.
Shadix is the last of her three sisters playing VB for West Point. The oldest, Lexi, has finished her prep and collegiate career, now a student in the medical field at the University of North Alabama.
Middle sister Liberty graduated back in May and is now playing for Snead State Community College. She was in an event at Wallace State over the weekend as the Lady Parsons used her talents to close out the Alabama vs. Mississippi Crossover with four consecutive victories.
