GOOD HOPE: Mitch Morris accepted an offer to be the basketball coach at Good Hope Middle School.
Gameday Weekly confirmed it Tuesday in getting in touch with Cullman Christian School, Morris coached the Lions last season, their 2nd year as a member of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
CCS Athletic Director Heith Yearwood told GDW the position became open and also a chance for Morris to be working alongside his son Griffin. Griffin has been on the middle school and high school staff at Good Hope for several seasons.
Morris is well known from his playing days at Holly Pond High School in the mid 1980s. He played for Dwayne Adams then went on for one season at Wallace State Community College, getting taught the game by the late Bobby McCracken.
His time on the sideline leading a ball club at Holly Pond began in 2004/05. The Broncos were 21 & 12 in his inaugural season.
Holly Pond claimed Cullman County championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
His best season at his alma mater was in 2016/17, a total of 32 victories, only 2 defeats and a berth to the AHSAA Class 3A Final Four.
Morris stepped away from the sport in 2021, until he was asked to get back into something that has been a huge part of his life.
He ran Cullman Christian School in 2023/24, the 2nd year for the school now with the AHSAA.
Morris was inducted into the Class of 2020 in the Cullman County Sports Hall of Fame.
His younger brother Mike followed suit in getting inducted in 2022.
Yearwood reported to GDW, the process to replace Morris is now under way.
Cullman Christian recently got a new floor installed in its gymnasium as they are to sand the floor and give it a new paint job.
This floor last year served as the home court for the G League team of the Boston Celtics.
