VINEMONT: In another encounter between the Hanceville Bulldogs and Vinemont Eagles, the battle would go down to the wire.
On December 13, Hanceville pulled out a 46 to 38 OT victory.
Thursday evening in a rematch from Vinemont Gymnasium, the Bulldogs got by the Eagles in a thriller on WKUL FM 57 to 55.
Hanceville led throughout the contest, getting the lead to double figures several times in the 2nd half.
Vinemont showed poise and made a late run in the 4th, tieing the score at 55 to 55 with 0:40 to go on a short range jumper from freshman guard Tucker Mauter.
The game would be won at the free throw line by Hanceville.
Drake Bentley made one of two with 28 seconds to go to put the Bulldogs back on top.
One of two from Dalton Pirkle at 0:07 added to the lead.
Vinemont missed a three from the top of the key as time expired.
Hanceville escapes another hard fought battle by Vinemont and is 3rd in 3A, Area 11 at 3 & 3. Stephen Chandler's squad earned their 7th win of the season.
Hanceville was 5 of 7 from the line in the 4th that keyed them to a victory in a challenging environment.
The Bulldogs were up 30 to 21 at the half and 48 to 36 at the end of the 3rd.
Vinemont outscored the Bulldogs 19 to 9 in the 4th by two key FGs from Mauter, four points by Bryson Bush and two shots coming from Cheston Wilhite.
Bentley loves playing Vinemont. He scored 25 against the Eagles for the 2nd consecutive game.
Peyton Twilley had 12, Sam Abney finished with 10, four by Pirkle and two apiece from Ashton Hurst, Kingsley Brown and Brodie Brenner.
Bush tallied 18 for the Eagles after he had 16 on Tuesday vs. Locust Fork.
Gee Flores collected 9, Mauter 8, Wilhite 7, William Conquest 5, Colton Gillis 5 and Gavin Parr 3.
