GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Something rare happened Thursday evening when the Hanceville Bulldogs defeated the Vinemont Eagles 44 to 33 in the AHSAA 3A, Area 11 playoffs.
Hanceville has four victories out of four decisions vs. Vinemont this season.
The Bulldogs beat the Eagles 58 to 43 in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament, 46 to 38 in OT at Lane Horton Gym December 13, 57 to 55 in Vinemont January 9 and the Thursday playoff encounter.
This game was tight through the first period as both teams struggled to get into executing their offense. The game was even at 6 to 6.
Hanceville had a good 2nd period that would be the difference in the matchup. The Bulldogs went on a 19 to 4 run and led the Eagles 25 to 10 at halftime.
Stephen Chandler's Bulldogs moved the lead in the 3rd to 35 to 15.
From there, Vinemont fought hard with a comeback, outscoring the Bulldogs 18 to 9.
But time ran out on Preston Boyd's Eagles in seeing the season close out at 7 wins & 18 losses.
Hanceville now moves into a semifinal game Saturday at No. 1 seed Locust Fork with 9 wins overall out of 25 decisions.
Drake Bentley ripped the cords for 22 against the Eagles. Bentley has scored 72 points in 3 matchups with Vinemont this season.
Peyton Twilley added 14.
Will Conquest delivered 10 for the Eagles with Colton Gillis scoring 9 and Gavin Parr 7.
