GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: To many, Ivey Maddox is known as the all time leading scorer in Cullman County high school girls basketball history.
Maddox can also show what she is on the defensive side.
The freshman got a steal with 0:02 left that saved the UAH Lady Chargers Saturday, a 51 to 48 win in the Gulf South Conference from the Hanna Center at Samford University.
UAH has come from nowhere to playing in the GSC championship game with former Wallace State Lady Lions' coach Allen Sharpe leading this team to the promise land.
UAH hired Sharpe after he directed Wallace State to 25 & 6 and 2nd in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) last season.
Maddox has been steady all season as a freshman after she led Good Hope to the 4A state championship and was named the 4A player of the year.
The steal in crunch time by Maddox was her 2nd. Maddox played the entire 40 minutes, even though she was not able to get into the scoring column.
She had 4 rebounds, 1 assist which was important in how she made it happen when the game was on the line for the Lady Chargers.
Lil Wilken got 21 for UAH and center Alexis Woods added 18. The Lady Chargers take a 25 & 5 record into a title game meeting Sunday at 12:00 p.m. against No. 1 seed Union University.
Sharpe's Lady Chargers have a 5 game winning streak and are 11 & 3 in games played away from the Huntsville campus.
