Local hoops report from Tuesday:
St. Bernard 38, Colbert Heights 37 (G):
On the night after they clinched the 1A, Area 14 title with a 41 to 38 victory over Addison, the St, Bernard Lady Saints got by Colbert Heights at the Fazi Richard Athletic Center to improve to 10 & 5 on the season.
Tim Burleson's Lady Saints have posted four wins in their last five decisions since January 14.
Three were in the area and now a non area triumph vs. a school from Northwest Alabama.
St, Bernard will be hosting the 1A, Area 14 tournament with the date TBA. The Lady Saints will play Cullman Christian in the first round while the other game will match Addison vs. Meek.
Cullman 61, Jasper 59:
Cullman Bearcats took care of a huge task at Bearcat Arena. Cullman stopped Jasper to keep itself alive for the top spot in AHSAA 6A, Area 13.
The Bearcats are now 2 & 1 in the area, Jasper falls to 1 & 1.
Mortimer Jordan is 1 & 2 in the 3 way area.
Jasper and Mortimer Jordan meet Friday at Jasper.
The Bearcats and the Vikings battle next Monday from Jasper.
Cullman has to win against Jasper and if the Vikings lose to Jordan, Stu Stuedeman's squad will take the regular season area crown.
No. 3 Cullman now has 22 wins against 4 losses, Jasper dropped to 17 & 8.
Cullman has added a game to its schedule. The 'Cats host Vincent from Shelby County Friday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be live on 98.3 FM.
Jasper 33, Cullman 27 (G):
Cullman lost to Jasper Tuesday at Bearcat Arena, falling to 0 & 3 in 6A, Area 13. Jasper is 1 & 1 in the area.
The Lady 'Cats have lost 4 in a row and have a record of 11 & 13 in the 2nd year with Jessica McBrayer leading the squad.
Cullman will finish the area schedule Monday at Jasper and ends the regular season at home January 30 vs. Fultondale.
Winston Co 48, Cullman Christian 43 (G):
Winston County visited Cullman Christian School Monday, ending the momentum of the Lady Lions.
CCS had won 3 games the previous week including one in area play vs. St. Bernard.
The Lady Lions are 9 & 14 with back to back games at home on Thursday vs. Lindsay Lane of Athens and Friday against JB Pennington from Blountsville.
