Local prep football very enjoyable during 2024 season:

Four schools have a good 2024 than they did in 2023 play:

GDW Analysis:
Local prep football showed a good display on improvement than in 2023.
Five teams qualified for the AHSAA playoffs, the most since 2019.
Four schools record more victories in 2024 than they had the year before.
Two schools would claim regional championships and go undefeated in their respective region.
Fairview and Good Hope would carry the banner of greatness with both being recognized in the state prep poll. Fairview ended the regular season # 3 in 5A while Good Hope would be 6th ranked from 4A play.
The season is unfortunately over for local football.
But for Gameday Weekly and WKUL FM (92.1), it was a prosperous 2024.
County games were reduced with only three being carried by 92.1 FM and WKUL.com

The number of county vs. non county foes were at the number 9, the most the station has had for its Game of the Week in a period of time.
Local teams won 7 of the 9 games that were on the airwaves of 92.1 FM Friday nights from the opener on August 23 with Vinemont getting by Falkville 16 to 14 to November 15 when Fairview was eliminated in the Round of 16 in Class 5A by Leeds 36 to 22.
Good Hope Raiders loved being a team that was broadcasted 7 times by 92.1 FM. The Raiders would be a winner in 6 of them, claiming the 4A, Region 5 title on October 25 at James Shabel Stadium in a 47 to 28 defeat of a good Dora Bulldog squad.
The Raiders' first game on the air was August 30 when they trailed at West Point 3 to 0 by halftime.
Two TD drives of 65 and 60 yards and a FG enabled the Raiders to gain a 17 to 3 victory.
Better this year than last year:
Fairview 9 & 0 in regular season, 1 & 1 in playoffs.

 Good Hope 10 & 2, 3 & 7 in 2023, regional champs.

 Vinemont 7 & 4, 4 & 7 in 2023.

Fairview was 5 & 0 on the road.
Good Hope was 5 & 1 as a home team.

 Memorable night for local football:
On a wet Friday September 13, seven schools played and all seven claimed victory.
Cullman got a 21 to 20 victory in the final minute at Jasper, Good Hope won 27 to 7 at Haleyville, Vinemont got by Midfield 32 to 28 in Birmingham, Hanceville earned a 24 to 0 shutout at Carbon Hill, Fairview downed Ardmore on the road 28 to 6, Cold Springs blasted Cleveland 46 to 0 in Blount County and Holly Pond drubbed Brindlee Mtn 54 to 6 on homecoming.
West Point's game vs. Lawrence County got postponed that evening due to heavy rain burying West Point Stadium. The game was played on Saturday at Britton Field, Woodard Stadium in Cullman.
The future:
Everybody will have to replace quality personnel as they move onward to 2025 play.
Everyone will stay in the same region as this is part of the 2 year procedure by the AHSAA. Reclassification will be reported by the AHSAA in January of 2026.

WKUL FM, Gameday Weekly, 98.3 Praise FM and hollypondbroncos.com will look forward to maintaining quality football on the air and on line beginning in late August of 2025.
