MOBILE: It will be the last time for Good Hope standout Ava McSwain to be involved in a high school basketball game.
McSwain is on the roster for Team Alabama to play the best from Mississippi in the 35th all star classic Saturday.
The girls game will tip off at the Mitchell Center from the University of South Alabama at 12:00 p.m.
McSwain is not the only person locally involved in the 2025 classic.
Cold Springs' Tammy West is the administrative coach, working with Ricky Austin of Spring Garden who is the head coach and assisted by Emily Flanigan of Sparkman.
West has handled this role several times in previous matchups with the best from the "Magnolia State."
After this weekend, it is reported that West is to accept the offer of becoming thew new girls coach at Cullman High School.
A media organization reported it on March 3 with Cullman administration asking current coach Jessica McBrayer to step down, in which she did.
McSwain just finished playing her 2nd year at Good Hope in helping the Lady Raiders return to the AHSAA 4A championship game.
Good Hope won it in 2024, McSwain's junior year and finished 2nd to Trinity Presbyterian in the title game played February 28 at Legacy Arena inside the BJCC.
McSwain is no stranger to all star events. In July last year, she suited up for the North team, helped them to victory in Montgomery and was named the MVP.
McSwain has committed to play for Allen Sharpe at the University of Alabama Huntsville. She will be reunited with former teammate Ivey Maddox who is a freshman for the Lady Chargers.
The senior shooting guard was selected the winner of the Bill Shelton Award from the Cullman County tournament.
McSwain has scored over 2,500 points in her career and is considered the best 2 guard by Gameday Weekly under their analysis.
The team has been in Mobile for several days of workouts and enjoying activities that are part of the festivity for this now entering its 35th time for the excitement it has created.
Alabama girls lead the series 20 wins to 14 as they posted a 65 to 59 victory last year with the game played at Mississippi College.
