GDW Analysis:
JASPER: Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) has charged the girls basketball and softball teams at Jasper High School in violation of a transfer rule.
The AHSAA released a statement Thursday after Jasper self reported it.
Therefore, the AHSAA reports the girls basketball team must forfeit 15 victories from the 2024/25 season.
One of the wins came against the Cullman Lady Bearcats in a 6A, Area 13 game in January from Bearcat Arena.
The student athlete reportedly did not follow the proper conduct in transferring. Jasper school officials addressed the issue with the AHSAA fining the 6A program $300 in fines and placing girls basketball and softball on probation.
The forfeit to Cullman gives the Lady Bearcats 17 wins for their 2024/25 season.
Cullman defeated Jasper 38 to 28 in a regular season game at Jasper January 27.
On February 8 in an area playoff at Bearcat Arena, Cullman claimed a 61 to 53 victory.
The name of the student athlete involved has not been released.
Jasper softball this week had a change in the coaching staff. The school named Kaylee Horton interim coach after Jonah Trotter was removed from the position at the end of last week.
Horton watched her Lady Vikings get their first of the season officially, a 4 to 2 victory at home against Hueytown.
Jasper and Cullman compete in Area 13 softball of Class 6A. The two will play at Jasper March 20 and make a return trip to Cullman on April 8.
