GDW Analysis:
TRINITY: Gameday Weekly was very delighted to get back to a sports assignment for the first time in two weeks.
Prep volleyball playdays are now going on this week and GDW journeyed to West Morgan Tuesday in following three local teams, West Point, Good Hope and Fairview.
West Point was ready to go into this setup with its new coach Meagan Cagle.
Cagle is back in the leader role after sitting out the past two years.
She coached five seasons at Cullman High School, with four consecutive winning campaigns, averaging 27 victories a season in this time frame.
Cagle inherits a team that has experience from playing the sport in 2023.
Laklin Shadix, Macie Brown, Katie Beth Yovino, Charly Aris and Caitlee Simmons come into the start of the Cagle era understanding the game and learning from her in how she runs the group.
West Point's venture on this day in Morgan County had the Lady Warriors taking on Danville, West Morgan, Waterloo and Good Hope.
Good Hope stepped on to the floor for matchups with Waterloo, Fairview, James Clemens and West Point.
The Lady Raiders have won three consecutive Cullman County championships with Natasha Holder guiding the squad to 66 wins against 14 losses in 2022 and 2023.
Good Hope sees a different setup for the new season. The Lady Raiders wait with patience in hoping senior Jolee McHan and sophomore Molly Benefield are ready to go when the season opens on August 22.
McHan is recovering from tearing ligaments in her leg last basketball season.
Benefield had hip surgery after she completed a very good year as the regular pitcher for the softball team in the spring.
Experience does return for Good Hope in Makenzie Cruce, Campbell Koch, Carley Adams and Mattie Wix.
Doing well in front of GDW Tuesday was Lexi Marshall, who played must of the previous season on junior varsity.
Fairview is well aware of 2024 will be a time of learning and developing.
Eighty three percent of the starting roster has graduated. The lone starter back from last season is Karlie English.
A newcomer to the team is Whitney Quick. Quick established greatness in the last two years playing basketball at Vinemont High School.
She relocated to Fairview back before school dismissed in May.
She is playing volleyball for the first time in her prep career.
The rest of the group is seeking game time experience after being a JV member in 2023.
Fairview had encounters Tuesday vs. Good Hope, West Morgan, James Clemens and Danville.
The event, coordinated by West Morgan coach Kristen Rymer, was broken down to 35 minutes of playing time with a running clock.
No official scoring was kept with battle going from Court 1 and Court 2 of a well kept building for this 4A program, located to the South of Decatur just off Highway 24 in Trinity.
Good Hope and Fairview are schedule to come to another playday series hosted by West Morgan on Thursday.
West Point will entertain Good Hope, Holly Pond, Cullman Christian, Hayden and Boaz Friday at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
The varsity segment will get under way at 12:40 p.m.
