Hard work and a winning attitude have paid the way for Trent Walker to return home.
After coaching the football program at Lawrence County for four years, Walker now looks to make his mark at Cullman High School.
The Cullman City Schools board members on Friday, approved the hiring of Walker.
Walker is a 2005 graduate of Cullman and was an athlete, participating in football.
"The opportunity to come here came open," Walker said during the news conference. "The process was unique. I feel this is the right time for me to come here. We now begin a process. Our goal is to maximize."
When Lawrence County got Walker to lead the Red Devils in 2021 while he was on the staff at Cullman with Oscar Glasscock running the Bearcats.
Lawrence County was fighting through getting a program out of the basement in Class 5A.
The first season resulted in 0 wins in 10 games.
Three victories came in his 2nd year in 2022.
Then back to back 6-win regular seasons and berths to the 5A playoffs.
The 6 wins in 2023 & 2024 was the first time Lawrence County was above the .500 mark since 6 wins were claimed in 2015.
While at Lawrence County, Walker got to match is squad up against Fairview and West Point as they played in 5A, Region 7 with them.
Last season, the Red Devils shut out West Point 40 to 0 when the game was played at Cullman on September 14, after it was rained out the evening before.
Fairview escaped an upset bid by the Red Devils, beating them 28 to 25 September 20 in Moulton.
His 2nd victory with the Red Devils was a 17 to 14 triumph in overtime at home September 22, 2022 vs. Hanceville. The game was carried live that evening on WKUL FM (92.1).
Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff reported during the meeting, the hiring of Walker was based on the best fit for students, structure, leadership and discipline.
Kallhoff reported Walker brings hard work and a winning attitude with him.
Cullman football has been well noticed statewide for its success. Since 2000, the Bearcats have gone to the AHSAA playoffs 22 years.
They have been a qualifier for six consecutive seasons.
Cullman's probable schedule for 2025 will be likely from how it was in 2024.
The Bearcats would have four games at Britton Field/Oliver Woodard Stadium with Bob Jones, Jasper, Muscle Shoals and Decatur.
Cullman competes in 6A, Region 7 with Athens, Jasper, Hartselle, Columbia, Muscle Shoals.
Non regional games include battles against Bob Jones, Mortimer Jordan, Brewer and Buckhorn.
