Week 1 local prep football results:

Cold Springs goes to Hanceville and outscores the Bulldogs:

GDW Analysis:
Road teams stood their ground on the first Friday of the new prep football season.
With four games played inside Cullman County, three were claimed by the road team.
A huge victory was accomplished by the Cold Springs Eagles in outscoring the Hanceville Bulldogs 48 to 30 at Ray Talley Stadium.
These two met for the first time since 2017.
Cold Springs has now started the last three seasons with coach Brendan Voce 1 & 0. In 2022 and 2023, the Eagles took down the Curry Yellow Jackets.
The Eagles win spoiled the debut of Levi Estes at Hanceville.
Hanceville got on top 6 to 0 in the first, only to see Cold Springs score twice in the 2nd and take a 14 to 12 lead to the locker room.
It was a close encounter after the third as Cold Springs clinged to a 20 to 18 cushion. The fourth stanza belonged to the Eagles in scoring four times to create a one sided victory.
Other games:
Haleyville 27, West Point 24: The opener of the Kevin McCray era at West Point was good until Haleyville scored late and followed that with recovery on the kickoff. The Warriors were behind 20 to 10 after the third.
Two touchdowns sent the Warriors on top before the Lions moved ahead and would claim victory as these two played each other for the first time since 2009. Haleyville is 8 & 1 all time vs. the Warriors.
Appalachian 28, Holly Pond 18: Another new coach was not able to enjoy victory in week one.
Will McDaniel's Broncos fought hard with the 1A school from Blount County. Appalachian led 14 to 12 with one period to play.
The Eagles went up 20 to 12 as the Broncos tallied a TD in the 4th and were behind 20 to 18.
Appalachian added a score on its side of the scoreboard late to leave Thomas/Michelfelder Field 1 & 0. These two faced each other for the first time since 2013.
