GDW weekly basketball award winners:
Varsity:
Cold Springs Eagles
Ethan Day of Cold Springs
Last week was good for the Eagles in 2A, Area 11 play with Cold Springs winning at home 52 to 36 against Winston County and a 56 to 51 victory last Thursday in Falkville.
The Eagles are 3 & 0 in the area and will finish the area schedule at home Friday vs. Falkville.
In his first season, Adam McKinnon has the Eagles playing well at the present time. The Eagles have won four of their last 5 games since December 19 when they defeated Winston County 52 to 40 in their area opener.
Cold Springs is 6 & 11 overall heading into this week with games at Cordova, vs. Danville and vs. Falkville.
Day has been a player McKinnon has counted on for his experience and ability to score.
Last week, Day tallied 19 in the win over Winston County and accounted for 15 against Falkville. He averaged 17 points for the good week in area play.
Girls:
Cold Springs Lady Eagles
Ella Dickerson of Cold Springs
All of a sudden, the Lady Eagles have found rhythm with 5 consecutive victories and controlling Class 2A, Area 11 action.
Cold Springs whipped Winston County and Falkville last week to run its area record to 3 & 0. The Lady Eagles are 12 & 6 and currently 2nd in the state 2A basketball poll.
Tammy West's squad encounters Cordova on the road Monday, host Danville Tuesday and finish the area schedule vs. Falkville on home Friday.
The 5 game winning streak offsets a tough early December in which Cold Springs lost three consecutive county matchups to Good Hope, Holly Pond and Vinemont.
Cold Springs will be a 6 seed heading into the county tournament, not a common detail for this squad out of Southwest Cullman County.
Dickerson is working her way back to being counted on for solid performance when the Lady Eagles have the ball.
Last week, Dickerson ripped the cords for 33 against Winston County and led the team in a road win at Falkville, dropping in 24.
The total of 57 points for the week gives Dickerson a 28 point average in recent area play for the Lady Eagles.
