FAIRVIEW: West Point Warriors continue their control of Cullman County baseball
in winning their 6th consecutive championship Tuesday evening at Mark Moore Field.
The Warriors toppled Cold Springs 9 to 2 in the semifinal round and followed it
under the lights by a 9 to 3 defeat of Fairview on its home diamond.
West Point pitching was very solid with Josh Cherry, Hunter Green and JD Cochran
combining to pitch 10 scoreless innings and hold the Cold Springs and Fairview

batters at bay.
Cherry retired the first 13 Cold Springs hitters he faced before he gave up a
1 out infield single to Matt Williams.
He allowed the Eagles two runs on three hits in 6 innings and struck out 8.
Green threw the 7th, giving up a single and accounting for two strikeouts. Cold
Springs' batters fanned 10 times to West Point hurlers.

Cochran earned a complete game victory in the championship that would propel
him to MVP honors. The right hander tallied five scoreless innings against Fairview,
yielding five hits. He stood out strong between the fourth through the sixth as
the Aggies managed one base runner on a hit by pitch, going down 9 times

in 10 plate appearances.
One big inning in both games at the plate served a huge role for Drew Bryson's
Warriors to continue their quest of six consecutive county championships.
A six run fourth inning against Cold Springs allowed the Warriors to go from a
3 to 0 lead to 9 to 0.
They produced run scoring plays on a double by Cochran, a single from Jay|
Lamar, a two run double by Green.
Cade Welborn reached base three times, twice on walks and once on a single
and scored twice.
Six runs crossed the plate in the 2nd of the championship with Fairview. The
Warriors did this on the benefit of one hit in the inning as three runners would
score after being walked, another run coming off a throwing error and two
scoring on a fielders choice.
The 6 run 2nd with the Warriors the home team in the championship cooled

off Fairview momentum with a big crowd on hand to see these two play
in the finals for the 2nd consecutive year.
Cochran allowed two runs in the final inning vs. Fairview with the Aggies
taking advantage of a fielding error plus a walk and a single and a run scoring

on a groundout.
The game ended at 8:39 p.m. when Cochran got Issac Elrod on a called
third strike, his second of the contest.
Fairview had posted back to back wins by scores of 12 to 2 against Holly
Pond and Good Hope that ended by the run rule to reach the championship.
The Aggies have 19 wins on the season and now prepare to play Madison
Academy in the first round of the AHSAA 5A playoffs Friday in Madison.
West Point will officially end the season Wednesday with a game at home
vs. Hanceville at 4:30 p.m.
