GDW Analysis:
MONTGOMERY: Gameday Weekly's top female player, Ivey Maddox of Good Hope, added to her award honors Tuesday by the state sportswriters association. The senior was named the Class 4A player of the year. Maddox earned the award over a couple of talented freshmen players, Kayden Carr of Prattville Christian and Reese Davis of Deshler. Maddox moved past Cold Springs standout Georgia Myrex to become the all time leading scorer in Cullman County basketball history. That took place on December 22 at Fairview's Joe Shults Gym. Maddox has scored over 2,600 points in being with the Lady Raiders and current coach Justin Aby for four seasons. GDW selected Maddox the player of the year on its all performance team that was released March 18.Maddox earned 1st team honors by GDW at the wing forward position. Maddox played an impact role in helping Good Hope win its first state hoops title in
school history. The senior, who has committed to play at the University of Alabama Huntsville was the co winner of the Bill Shelton Award at the Cullman County Tournament with teammate
Bailey Tetro. Maddox played in the AHSAA North-South all star game back in July of 2023, sharing time on the North squad with Cold Springs' guard Maci Brown. After Good Hope took down the AHSAA 4A championship March 1 in Birmingham against
TR Miller, Maddox played for Team Alabama in its all star battle against the state of Mississippi a week later and helped them come from behind for a thrilling victory at Mississippi College.
Maddox's father, Jody Maddox, told GDW she will head to Alabama Huntsville after the school hired Wallace State's Allen Sharpe to be the next coach for the Lady Chargers. While Maddox was celebrating her player of the year honor in Montgomery, Good Hope teammate Ava McSwain announced through social media Tuesday, she has committed to UAH. McSwain has one more season as a prep player.
