GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: After having a very good Cullman County basketball tournament, West Point sophomore center Laklin Shadix reached a milestone Tuesday evening when the Lady Warriors defeated Ragland 79 to 15 at Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
Shadix got her 1,000th point of her career, the latest in local hoop players to accomplish this feat in the 2024/25 season.
To get her near this point total, Shadix had 41 points in three games of the county tournament.
Her effort of 23 points in the Lady Warriors' 63 to 48 conquering of No. 2 seed Vinemont January 23 carried West Point into the championship game with Good Hope.
Shadix tallied 9, but the Lady Warriors fell short of the county crown in a 58 to 51 loss to the Lady Raiders.
Shadix was named to the all tournament team for her great week.
She was also recognized on the coaches all county team.
Laklin is the youngest of three sisters in the Shadix family.
Lexi is the oldest and is now pursuing a career in nursing at the University of North Alabama.
Liberty is the middle sister in finishing up her first year playing volleyball at Snead State Community College.
Laklin is ranked among the best post players by Gameday Weekly.
Her ability to score, plus rebound and defend in a big reason West Point has 21 wins against 5 losses and will be hosting the 5A, Area 15 tournament this weekend.
Shadix shares this honor with other standouts such as Ella Dickerson of Cold Springs, Whitney Quick of Fairview, Reagan Robinson of Vinemont in getting 1,000 in their career earlier this season.
