GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: West Point remains alive for the chance to win the AHSAA 5A, Area 15 regular season championship.
Thanks to a 59 to 46 victory Tuesday over Lawrence County, the Warriors were not eliminated from the opportunity.
West Point is 1 & 2 in area play and will need a victory at home Friday vs. Russellville in the WKUL FM Game of the Week.
Then the Warriors will have to have Lawrence County defeat Russellville on January 24 for a possible 3-way tie with each to be 2 & 2 in the area.
Tiebreaking procedures would have to be applied to determine the No. 1 seed and area playoff host.
Mason Voce's Warriors turned a 17 to 9 lead in the first into a 26 to 11 lead in the 2nd on back to back 3 point plays from Cade Welborn and Jay Lamar.
The Warriors would go on to a 33 to 22 halftime advantage as Lamar and Maddix Chapman combined for 24 points in the opening half.
Both teams had a rough 3rd period. The Warriors scored only 5 points, all by Lamar and the Red Devils managed 5 points too.
West Point led 38 to 27 with one period remaining.
Lamar would complete a solid outing of 29 points with 11 in the final period.
The senior shooting guard netted 16 in the 2nd half.
Chapman was next with 14, Welborn and Brier Taylor scored 6, Jaxson Shelton accounted for 4.
The Warriors have the best record of the county schools at 19 & 4 with the Russellville game Friday before they take the No. 1 seed into the Cullman County Tournament the following week from Wallace State.
