What's ahead for local hoops after Christmas Day:

West Point Classic to have 8 teams play in a 3 day span:

GDW Analysis:
Local basketball will be off for Tuesday and Wednesday to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
West Point High School will be festive with eight teams playing at Jim Boyd Gymnasium between Thursday and Saturday.
Coach Mason Voce has brought back this event to West Point after it has been inactive for a few years,
Most of the teams involved are not far from West Point.
The matchups will have in the first round, 4A vs. 4A, 5A vs. 2A, 5A vs. 4A and 3A vs. 5A.
West Point will bring a 13 & 3 record to the event, coming off a 70 to 58 victory over Good Hope on December 21 to hand the Raiders their first loss in county games.
Holly Pond is on an upswing with two consecutive wins vs. Hanceville and Vinemont, both with the Broncos in 3A, Area 13 play.
Decatur Heritage is ranked 5th in the first 2A state poll released last week.
First round schedule Thursday:
3:00 - Oneonta vs. Danville
4:30 - Springville vs. Decatur Heritage
6:00 - West Point vs. East Lawrence

 7:30 - Holly Pond vs. Corner

 GDW has seen West Point, Holly Pond, East Lawrence and Corner in the first month of the 2024/25 season.

 Corner finished 2nd to Good Hope in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament. East Lawrence was seen by GDW in a recent 4A, Area 13 game at Good Hope.
Oneonta is coached by Cory Glasscock, formerly at Holly Pond. The new coach for Danville is Sam Wallace, known to GDW through his time coaching girls in recent years at Elkmont High School.
Four games are to be on Friday with the semifinals set for 6:00 and 7:30 p.m.
Championship Saturday starts at 3:00 with 7th place game, 4:30 for the 5th place contest.
The 3rd place game will be at 6:00 and the championship is to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
