Vinemont Eagles ranked in 1st state BB poll:
BIRMINGHAM: In having the best local record a month into the 2025 baseball season, the Vinemont Eagles are ranked No. 7 in the first poll released by the state sportswriters.
Vinemont is 15 & 5 overall, on top in 3A, Area 12 at 6 & 0. The Eagles are the 4th seed in the Cullman County Tournament with a quarterfinal game vs. Hanceville Friday 2:00 p.m. from Good Hope High School.
No local softball teams ranked statewide:
BIRMINGHAM: No one locally in prep softball earned a spot in the Top 10 of the first poll of the season.
Good Hope Lady Raiders have shown good play with 10 wins, 5 losses and a tie. They are on the outside of the 4A rankings that were released Thursday morning.
Good Hope is undefeated in 4A, Area 13 at 1 & 0 and has an area game Thursday at East Lawrence.
The Lady Raiders drew the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Cullman County tournament when the pairings were released by the CCBOE Wednesday.
Looking to fill coaching vacancies:
Two schools are currently looking to fill vacancies in their athletic program.
Cold Springs High School is in search of a varsity basketball coach.
Vinemont High School is looking to find someone to take over the volleyball team.
Both are posted in the job openings section on the school board website, CCBOE.org
No timetable has been announced by the schools and the school board in trying to get the positions filled as soon as possible.
Nominated for player of the year:
Two outstanding local basketball players have been selected as a finalist for player of the year in their respective class.

 Good Hope senior Ava McSwain is up for the honor in Class 4A. McSwain was recently named 1st team 4A All State and is the Gameday Weekly player of the year.
Cold Springs junior Ella Dickerson got selected as a finalist for 2A player of the year.
Dickerson was a 1st team selection for All State and the No. 1 wing player in the GDW all performance team.
The awards banquet will be held April 17 in Montgomery.
