GDW Analysis:
FLORENCE: Cullman softball could not keep up the momentum Tuesday, getting knocked out of the AHSAA 6A North Regional by Buckhorn 6 to 3 at Coffee O'Neal Park.
Cullman would claim a win in three games during their 2 day visit to the regional. The Lady 'Cats earned 23 wins on the 2024 season, finishing 2nd in 6A, Area 13 to Mortimer Jordan.
Cullman had a first round loss by 7 to 6 to Hazel Green then soared in outscoring Fort Payne 16 to 8 to earn a return visit to the park for Tuesday.
Buckhorn held the upper hand on Lewayne Morton's Lady 'Cats. Cullman has been to the regional for the last three years.
Cullman loses three players to graduation. Shortstop Taylor Au, pitcher Brie Voss and OF Kylie Stracener showed quality play in their last season playing for the black and gold.
For the future, the Lady 'Cats will count on consistency by 3B Brooklyn Morton, 2B Hattie Graham, OF Reese Hopper, C Abby Maples.
A highlight of this season was 2 wins by the team against No. 3 Jasper from Class 5A.
Cullman also got a late season winning in extra innings at county tournament champion Good Hope and senior day on April 21 in
defeating Wesy Point 8 to 3.
Cullman's 23 victories were the most by a team covered regularly by Gameday Weekly.
