BIRMINGHAM: Before playing in this year's Cullman County basketball tournament, seven teams will come to Wallace State with state recognition.
In the latest release of the state hoops poll, 5 girls teams and 2 varsity have earned attention, which raises the bar of the quality local basketball has in the 2024/25 season.
Getting added to the fanfare is the West Point Warriors.
With the best record locally at 19 & 4, the Warriors stepped in the 5A rankings at No. 9 for the week.
Good Hope Raiders slipped to 6th in Class 4A after a loss last Thursday to Madison Academy and a Tuesday OT defeat at West Morgan in 4A, Area 13 play. Good Hope is 16 & 5.
Staying 3rd for the 2nd consecutive week is the Cullman Bearcats. Cullman slide by Hartselle 53 to 50 Tuesday to extend its winning streak to 8 games. The Bearcats have 21 wins out of 24 decisions.
Good Hope Lady Raiders were sent down the 4A rankings following their loss last Thursday to Madison Academy.
Madison Academy went to No. 2 in the poll while Good Hope is now 4th. Lady Raiders have 16 wins against 5 losses.
Cold Springs kept the No. 2 position in 2A despite having a 6 game winning streak broken by Danville 55 to 51 Tuesday at Cold Springs. Lady Eagles are 13 & 7 for the season.
West Point Lady Warriors stayed in 5th position for Class 5A. Lady Warriors are 16 & 4 on the season and currently with a 4 game victory run.
Vinemont has the No. 6 spot in 3A with Holly Pond right behind the Lady Eagles at No. 7.
Vinemont won the 3A, Area 11 regular season title Tuesday at Holly Pond 36 to 34. Vinemont stands at 15 & 4 with Holly Pond now 15 & 6.
Scottsboro Lady Wildcats are 1st in the 5A poll and will visit Fairview Friday evening for an Area 14 assignment.
Hartselle Lady Tigers stay 3rd in 6A, coming off dominating the Cullman Lady Bearcats at home 56 to 30.
Austin Black Bears have a No. 4 position in the 7A poll. The Black Bears are to play the Cullman Bearcats in the Martin Luther King Classic Monday morning at Wallace State.
