GDW prep volleyball team spotlight:
Cullman Christian Lady Lions: CCS finally got to play on its new parquet floor September 12 and celebrated the moment with a three game sweep of the Hanceville Lady Bulldogs.
CCS earned victory by scores of 25 to 10, 25 to 15 and 25 to 22.
The match vs. a team from the Cullman County schools system was played in 59 minutes.
The Lady Lions are now officially in the AHSAA after going through a 2 year probation period in 2022 and 2023.
A good crowd was on hand to see the Lady Lions play steady and earn their 6th victory on the 2024 schedule.
Sydney Rowell is in her 2nd season leading CCS.
Player spotlight of the week:
Gracie Stidham and Lila Sellers of Cullman Christian School:
Both had a solid outing in the Lady Lions' victory over Hanceville, playing on their new floor for the first time.
Stidham started out the match with three kills during their first four points. She had a pair of scoring kills early in the 2nd set and in the finale, tallied five consecutive points on serve with the last one being an ace.
Sellers showed good play on the front row plus what she was able to accomplish as a server.
A block late in the 3rd game was huge for the Lady Lions to fight off a Hanceville comeback in trying to avoid being swept.
The effort from these two in setting the tone teamwise is where the Lady Lions can try to build momentum.
The next time they are at home will be Thursday with No. 1 ranked Addison visiting in an Area 13 encounter.
