GDW prep basketball report from Friday:
Fairview 74, Cold Springs 34:
FAIRVIEW: A 3 & 0 record against Cullman County teams was accomplished by the Aggies this week.
After a 76 to 72 victory at West Point Thursday, the Aggies came back to Joe Shults Gym and handled Cold Springs to improve to 5 & 1 on the season.
Blake Rikard reached a milestone when he scored his 1,000th point Friday. Rikard led the Aggies Thursday night with a 25 point outing at West Point in his return to the hardwood this week after finishing football last Friday.
Good Hope 98, Vinemont 37:
GOOD HOPE: Defending Cullman County champion Good Hope soared into action in its opener. A year ago, the Raiders scored 102 in a season opening win against Winston County at Wallace State.
On November 22, the Raiders assaulted the basket in romping over county opponent Vinemont.
Hanceville 62, Meek 41:
HANCEVILLE: Bulldogs broke a 2 game losing streak during the week in defeating the Meek Tigers at Lane Horton Gymnasium.
Holly Pond 42, Southeastern 38:
HOLLY POND: The Broncos claimed a hard fought victory from Felton Easterwood Gym against the Southeastern Mustangs out of Blount County.
Good Hope 53, Vinemont 40 (G):
GOOD HOPE: Playing for the first time in 8 days and at home for the first time, the Lady Raiders took down Vinemont in its opener in Cullman County play.
Lady Raiders are 2 & 1 on the season, Vinemont falls to 3 & 2.
Cullman 63, Madison County 29 (G):
Lady Bearcats found their scoring touch in taking down Madison County for the 2nd time in the span of a week. Cullman had defeated Madison County 39 to 34 last Friday in Gurley.
Lady Bearcats pick up their 3rd victory in 7 games.
Cold Springs 61, Fairview 54 (OT) (G):
FAIRVIEW: From getting 24 points earlier in the week in a home loss to Holly Pond, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles rebounded Friday at Joe Shults Gymnasium in an overtime thriller against Fairview.
Fairview fell to 5 & 2 with the Lady Aggies losing to a county foe for the 2nd straight night. Fairview was defeated on Thursday by West Point 57 to 40.
Hanceville 42, Meek 28 (G):
HANCEVILLE: Hanceville said goodbye to 3 consecutive losses by performing well from Lane Horton Gymnasium against the Meek Lady Tigers.
Holly Pond 64, Southeastern 41 (G):
HOLLY POND: Lady Broncos enjoyed a good week on the hardwood with 3 victories, 2 coming over schools from Blount County.
