GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: In converting more 1st period field goals than Fairview, the West Point Warriors took that advantage and would go on to win 57 to 40 Thursday evening in a battle of undefeated teams two weeks into the 2024/25 season.
West Point coach John Welborn told Gameday Weekly prior to the contest, his team had not shot well in their last two games, county wins against Holly Pond and Hanceville.
They opened the Fairview battle with a 20 to 5 first period lead on 7 made shots, 2 treys from Camryn Faulkner and a couple of FGs by Jaelyn Faulkner and Kealie Harbison.
Fairview came alive on a pair of treys in the 2nd by Lexi Golden to get the Lady Aggies close at 23 to 16.
The rest of the period was a 13 to 2 spurt by West Point and a 36 to 18 halftime cushion.
Three Lady Warriors would have double digit tallies after the 3rd. Their lead grew to 48 to 26 with Jaelyn Faulkner having 14 at the time, Harbison and Camryn Faulkner 10 each.
Lakin Shadix showed her strength in the 2nd half with 4 FGs, 9 points to complete the evening scoring 13.
The 14 by Jaelyn Faulkner, 13 from her sister Camryn and by Shadix plus 10 from Harbison and 5 by Patton Fell showed how balance Welborn's team is in now having a 5 & 0 record and 3 & 0 vs. the county opponents.
Davi Stidham led the Lady Aggies with 12, Golden scored 11. Shooting guard Whitney Quick was held to 5 points, hitting 1 FG for the game and no points from long range.
West Point will be playing in the Gulf Shores Classic with an opening round game on Saturday.
Fairview will try to bounce back when the Lady Aggies face Cold Springs at home Friday.
