GDW prep football team spotlight:
Fairview Aggies: Fairview once again showed others how good they can play football away from Dafford Smith Stadium.
The Aggies stay undefeated after outlasting Lawrence County 28 to 25 last Friday.
Fairview is 4 & 0 on the season with three wins coming at Springville, Ardmore and Lawrence County. The Aggies currently share the top spot in 5A, Region 7 with Russellville.
These two will tangle on the 1st Friday in October. Fairview is idle for the final Friday in September.
Fairview started strong against the Red Devils with a 14 to 0 lead in the first quarter.
Lawrence County was able to cut into the deficit and trailed the Aggies 22 to 14 at the half.
The Aggies were clinging to a 22 to 17 edge after the third and went up 28 to 17 with a score early in the 4th.
Lawrence County rallied and trailed 28 to 25 with plenty of time for the Red Devils to pull off a comeback victory.
George Redding's Aggies showed toughness and denied the Red Devils the opportunity.
The Aggies have accounted for 145 points through 4 games, an average of 36.2 points per game. Fairview is 2nd in county scoring to Holly Pond who has 152 points and a point ahead of Cold Springs. The Eagles have 144 through the first half of the season.
GDW prep player spotlight:
Jake Harper of the Fairview Aggies: A very experienced runner in the Fairview backfield, Harper rushed for 121 yards and scored twice in the 5A, Region 7 victory at Lawrence County.
Harper got into the Red Devil end zone on a 58 yard run in the 2nd quarter to boost the Fairview lead to 14 to 0.
Harper capped off a TD drive with a plunge from the one early in the 4th that made it 28 to 17 Aggies.
The experience by Harper as a runner, along with Carson Jones and the play of QB Kolt Redding, has been inspiring for the Aggies to be ranked 5th in the 5A state poll heading to the halfway portion of the 2024 schedule.
