GDW Analysis:
HUNTSVILLE: Jasper High School athlete Mia Hollingsworth has changed her future plans.
Hollingsworth was planning to be a two sport athlete at Wallace State Community College. She had accepted an offer to play golf for coach JJ Adams at the Hanceville-based community college.
During her basketball season, she was courted by the Wallace State coaches and said she would play for them next year in being a duo athlete.
Things changed. In April, Allen Sharpe stepped down from coaching Wallace State Lady Lions hoops and accepted the offer to be the new coach at the University of Alabama Huntsville.
Hollingsworth reportedly was offered to be on Sharpe's Lady Chargers squad.
On Tuesday, the Jasper standout signed a letter of intent with the NCAA Division II school that competes in the Gulf South Conference.
Hollingsworth capped off her senior season helping Jasper win the AHSAA Northwest Regional at Wallace State, in front of Sharpe and others.
Then she put together two outstanding games in the 5A Final Four with Jasper defeating Scottsboro in the title game at Legacy Arena
in Birmingham.
Hollingsworth was named the MVP.
After the season, she joined teammate Missy Odom as finalists for the ASWA 5A player of the year award. Odom, a sophomore, was chosen the top performer in this class by the state sportswriters.
Hollingsworth will be heading to Huntsville with another talented player she faced last season and played with in the 2023 AHSAA North-South All Star Game.
Good Hope's Ivey Maddox signed with UAH back in November when the Lady Chargers were coached at the time by Andrea Lemmond.
Lemmond stepped down after the 2023/24 season. UAH decided to go after Sharpe who was double duty for Wallace State hoops this past season.
The Lady Lions went 25 & 6, finished 2nd in the ACCC. Sharpe took the offer and now has a player he wanted to be with him in Hanceville, following him to Huntsville.
Hollingsworth is one of the top shooters in the backcourt according to analysis by GDW.
In her junior season, she hit 7 treys in a game at Tom Drake Coliseum, hosted by Wallace State.
Hollingsworth and Maddox were on the winning side for Team North against the South all stars in late July of 2023 from the Cramton Bowl Complex in Montgomery.
