LOCALS EARN SPOTLIGHT FOR UPCOMING ALL STAR BASKETBALL GAME:

MONTGOMERY: Seniors to be Maci Brown of Cold Springs and Ivey Maddox of Good Hope have earned the opportunity to be on center stage in the annual Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) girls basketball all star game.
The duo were selected by a committee in the spring, accepting the invitation to participate with the classic to be July 18 at the Cramton Bowl Sportsplex at 5:00 p.m. In representing Cullman County for this midsummer event, both are recognized in the
WKUL FM athlete of the week spotlight. The pair are coming off memorable junior seasons with outstanding contributions as
Cold Springs was ranked No. 1 all season in Class 2A and Good Hope 1st all season in Class 4A by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA).Brown served as a huge impact in the postseason for Cold Springs with the Lady Eagles
winning the AHSAA Central Regional in Birmingham, defeating Francis Marion in the title game at Bill Harris Arena 70 to 60.
Brown was selected the regional MVP. She had 21 points, hitting 9 of 10 free throws and 11 assists for the title game was carried live on WKUL FM and WKUL.com Brown was on the Gameday Weekly all performance team, All County, All Area and a member of the 2A state all tournament team. Maddox showed tremendous scoring for Good Hope with the sharpshooter surpassing the 2,000 point mark in her career. Maddox has been a three year starter for Justin Aby with the Lady Raiders going 86 & 18 in this span and earning three berths into the AHSAA 4A Northwest Regional at Wallace State. In a 4A, Area 13 game at home December 6 vs. West Morgan, Maddox had a shooters' touch by hitting six treys, netting 20 points and an easy 62 to 14 victory. Good Hope dropped in 14 long distance shots that evening with Maddox setting the tone. Good Hope was superior in area play, prevailing in eight decisions with no losses, taking down the area title vs. Priceville on February 9 at Good Hope Gymnasium.
Maddox was named the GDW player of the year in a 31 & 3 season that featured a 28 & 0 start for the Lady Raiders. Maddox also was recognized as all county, all area, all state and on the 4A regional all tournament team. The AHSAA all star basketball series enters its 27th year, spotlighting great talent across the state. Brown and Maddox will be on the North team with Blake Prestage of Rogers and Crosby Morrison of Pelham selected as the coaches. Prestage knows Maddox rather well. His squad has faced Good Hope in the 4A regional in 2021 and 2022. Rogers won in 2021 with Good Hope earning a victory in the 2022 semifinal from Tom Drake Coliseum at Wallace State. That was Maddox's freshman and sophomore season in a Good Hope uniform.
