GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Vinemont Eagles and the Good Hope Raiders will play each other for the 2nd time in the span of four days.
That will be Tuesday in the semifinals of the 42nd Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament from Lane Horton Gymnasium.
Both light up the scoreboard Monday in the opening round.
Vinemont started by zooming by the Meek Tigers 66 to 45.
Good Hope had a superb 2nd half to break open a game with the Dora Bulldogs, winning 78 to 50.
Vinemont takes a 3 & 3 record to the semifinal with Good Hope just under way with the season in having 2 wins in 2 games.
The Raiders ran by the Eagles at Good Hope Gym last Friday 98 to 37.
Vinemont:
Preston Boyd made it clear to Gameday Weekly three weeks ago at the Cullman County Schools media day that the Eagles would be a running team.
They cashed in tremendous opportunities during the 2nd period when the Eagles went on a 28 to 14 scoring streak and went from a 10 to 6 lead following the 1st to 38 to 20 at halftime.
Vinemont only hit 3 FGs in the 3rd to see its pace slow up. But Meek managed just 11 points and the Eagles took a 46 to 30 lead into the final stanza.
The Eagles went back to work and finished the 4th scoring 20 points on 7 FGs, 1 trey and 5 of 7 from the line in earning their 3rd victory and having balanced scoring in the process.
Gee Flores. Colton Gillis and EJ Sharpe pumped in 11 points apiece. Cheston Wilhite got 8, Will Conquest 6 and Preston Lee 6.
The Eagles were superior with 48 points scored in the 2nd and 4th period while having 18 coming in the 1st and 3rd stanza.
Good Hope:
Good Hope's defense was the storyline in the 1st half against Dora for just allowing the Bulldogs 7 points and 11 in the 2nd for 18 total.
The Raiders were not sharp in scoring during the first 16:00 of play. Good Hope led 21 to 18 at the half.
The game turned different for Drew Adams' Raiders in the final two periods.
Good Hope found its scoring rhythm in a 24 point 3rd to lead 45 to 37.
The Raiders unloaded in the final 8:00 by a 33 point scoring display, connecting on 10 FGs with 6 coming from three point range.
Tucker Malin stole the show for the Raiders as he would be the top scorer with 39 points, 28 in the 2nd half.
Malin tallied 12 in the 3rd that gave him 23 going to 4th. His final period in his 2nd game of the season was 16 points with three treys, three FGs and three of three from the stripe,
This has been the best performance by a local player 18 days after the 2024/25 season tipped off.
Supporting Malin was Jacob Haynes with 16, netting 13 in the final half and scoring 6 of 9 from the line.
Tyler Cone accounted for 8, Gavin Pace delivered 9 on three treys.
In the 2nd half, the Raiders erupted for 18 FGs, 9 coming on 3 point makes and 10 FTs.
Cold Springs:
Cold Springs was not able to make it a 3 for 3 evening with the county vs. non county.
The Eagles fell to the Corner Yellow Jackets in the finals 71 to 55.
Cold Springs trailed 21 to 14 when the first ended. Corner got hotter by a 26 to 13 2nd period to hold a 47 to 27 lead by halftime.
Coach Adam McKinnon's Eagles outscored the Yellow Jackets 16 to 10 in the 4th, cutting a deficit of over 20 points to a final tally of 16.
Junior Talan Laird led Corner to its first win of the season for coach Nathan Sanders with 20, hitting 8 shots, three from downtown.
Nic Fallin was on target for the Eagles scoring 18, Breydon Hallman 10, Ayden Black 11, Bailey Gann 4.
