VINEMONT: Wallace State volleyball was unable to play at Tom Drake Coliseum Saturday as construction work is going on in the corridor of the 32 year old facility.
The Lady Lions took their assignment vs. Pellissippi State from Knox County, Tennessee up the road to Vinemont Gymnasium.
In exactly 1 hours, the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Panthers 25 to 12, 26 to 24 and 25 to 13.
Randy Daniel's Lady Lions have won 7 consecutive matches and have the best record of teams in the ACCC North at 15 & 5.
For the week, the Lady Lions did not lose a set to Bevill, Lawson and Pellissippi.
Gameday Weekly analyzed the match and saw a of contribution from a squad that is getting into a groove after last weekend losing at home for the first time in three years.
Amanda Monge was very superb from serving with 9 consecutive points in the first set to snap a 1 to 1 score,
Monge would get the final five points as she had 16 for the set and Wallace State was ahead 1 victory to none.
The Lady Panthers showed some character and took Wallace to a very challenging 2nd set.
Wallace held a 20 to 17 lead on a block from sophomore attacker Chloe Jackson. Pellissippi then stropped the Lady Lions with four straight points and get them ahead 21 to 20.
Jackson followed with points on two kills and a block then a kill by Rachel Mecklenburg and the game ender on a kill by Kailey Dickerson from a serve by freshman libero Abby McDonald.
Ali Price got her chance to standout in propelling the Lady Lions to a 7 to 0 advantage with her 7th point coming as an ace.
Quality play was presented by former Fairview standout Ava Calvarese with four straight points on serve, a pair of kills and a volley by Molly Shiflett, a couple of assists by McDonald and the game winner at 2:02 p.m. on a serve from Amelia Fowler.
Next up for the Lady Lions is a conference match Wednesday at Snead State. Wallace State will look to contain freshman Liberty Shadix, the former GDW all performance standout from West Point.
Wallace will hold its fall bash Friday and Saturday, but not on campus. The Lady Lions will use Lane Horton Gym next weekend at Hanceville HS as they have 2 assignments on the 20th and pair of matches on the 21st.
